So I’m seriously in the market for a new bag, but I’m having pretty much zero luck. Of course, like everything I want, my needs are complicated and probably expensive. What I’m trying to get away from is the nylon, black, every-man business laptop bag. They’re ugly. Terribly terribly ugly. I need something with style that isn’t eurotrash ultra-modern (please, no colored stripes or “minimal” design), something rugged, something with a really nice spot for the laptop (like an actual pocket with padding / hard sides), and something that has a few other storage spaces (one or two of decent size). It doesn’t need to be super techy, but some inside pockets wouldn’t hurt.
Let me offer some quick guidance:
No.
No.
Hell no.

I’m basically in the same camp: my standard tumbuk2 bag is starting to feel a tad large, but it’s the best I’ve found so far.

Are you requiring a messenger-type bag, or are you open to backpacks?

Looking for something more in the shoulder bag vein, not a backpack.

Check out Filson, Barbour or Mulholland Bros for rugged laptop bags that wont make you look like a Tumi drone with no taste…Some smaller designers make occasional laptop ready bags that look like these as well

Get a large envelope for other stuff storage and throw it inside. No one is going to mess with you or your bag if you get one of these.

I’ve bought an Axio Fuse hardpack in June ‘06 and I love it. Axio has updated it since w/ a couple of extra internal pockets that are probably a welcomed addition. http://www.axio-usa.com/fuse_black.html (available in 5 colors). They also make some hardsleeves that look interesting.
